I received a card in the mail yesterday from a former friend. I am refusing to acknowledge this person anymore in my life for one simple reason:
Racism how now become an excuse for why people aren't successful. Her position is that whites are still to blame for the problems of blacks in American society, and blacks can't get ahead because of it.
Frankly, I'm sick of it. I don't know about you, but I'm too busy living my own life and trying to do the right thing to waste my time in trying to hold others back.
As Christians, we are to be colorblind. Not only that, we are personally responsible for our own actions. The Bible says,
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)
Although racism does exist, it isn't something that should be present in the church, and it isn't something that we as Christians should be participating in. Unfortunately, churches like Jeremiah Wright's have kept racism alive and well in the church, and we should all be ashamed of this. Instead of allowing Christians to harp on this though, it's time we expelled people like Jeremiah Wright from the church.
Believers aren't to sit in judgement of nonbelievers. That is the job of Jesus. He said so. However, that doesn't mean there shouldn't be correction for fellow Christians.
15Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
16But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
17And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. (Matthew 18:15-17)
If Jeremiah Wright really is a Christian, then it's time for him to be corrected.
It's time for blacks in the church to stop embracing racism. This is idolatry.
Unfortunately, too many people in the church think that once we accept Christ, our lives are to be pain free. That's not true. Jesus told us we would be persecuted for what we believe. We would be persecuted for living the Christian life.
Everyone struggles in life in one way or another, and Christians struggle. We're not perfect. Jesus gave us the tools to succeed, and He gave us the blueprint to prosperity in every area of our lives. It's called the Bible.
If you are struggling today in your life, turn to your Bible. Read your Bible. God has a message for you. A message of love, a message of hope, and Christ offers you the abundant life.
What makes Christianity so radical isn't the idea that Jesus was a black Marxist rebel (Black Liberation Theology). No, what Jesus taught is love. We are to love God, love our neighbors, and love ourselves. We can only love God and others as much as we love ourselves.
If you are holding onto any kind of limiting beliefs, you are limiting the amount of love you can have for yourself. This limits the amount of love you have for God and others. The most important commandment Christ gave us was to love, and if you refuse to love, then you're wasting your time as a Christian.
I'm not perfect. I don't claim to be. Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven. When you're forgiven, you don't have to carry around the past or that old sin anymore. It's very liberating. It's the path to freedom Christ offered.
If your life isn't everything it should be today, I recommend going and looking in the mirror. Ultimately, you'll find the answer there as to why your life isn't what it should be.
